Studios and studio mates

Last year, I applied to be an artist in residence with the Moreton Bay Regional Council Residency program. I was sure that with my newness to the world of oils, that they would giggle and say "Heck, No." After an interview and much excited waiting, I was chosen with three other artists to have the amazing studio space. I started off with the smallest but most visible studio 2, Every day, I went and painted. As soon as the doors let me in, I was there. I found my soul. Art was now my real full-time job. When the amazing landscape photographer Gavin Behrens opened his own home studio, I moved into his studio 3. It felt odd without Gavin, but he was off in the great outdoors making beautiful imagery so he was happy. We all missed him though. His studio offered me so much more space, and white walls. Art poured out of me. In the other studios, my fellow artists Pheobe Thompson and Sean Leahy worked to create.

about the others:

Phoebe is an amazing young contemporary artist with huge energy and spirit that fills that room. When I was down, she said things to pick me up. She runs amazing classes for children and is just uber creative and wonderful.

Sean is a famous Australian cartoonist who has moved into creating the most expressive and powerful art with a voice. Art with a message. His studio was definitely the cleanest. So organised. I learned so much from him and from Phoebe.

When Phoebe left to create on her own, Mira Chorik moved in to studio 5. Mira is multi talented. She was working on multiple projects and art that has a very strong voice. She inspired me to think outside the box and see differently. She is also a talented songwriter and musician, so she and I had music in common also. A quiet soul and extremely talented.
